In December 2023, I was working on a long duration observation perspective project, in which I spent four hours listing the things I saw, heard, and experienced when I was at a dance event and recreated a model based on my list of observations.
As I tried to reconstruct the "space", I noticed that the notes I took were out of order, deviating from my expectation of a chronological narrative.
Some of the things I wrote down were completely forgotten, and some of the things I remembered were not objectively true. As I recalled, the memories of the dance event evoked memories from the more remote past that influenced the decision I made during the event. The different emotions I felt during the event also affected my perception of the passage of time and its visual presentation.
Intrigued by the fluidity and subjectivity of time, I decided to create a film based on my memories of the event ("retrospective time"). Drawing inspiration from Chris Marker’s "La Jatée," I used still images to convey the non-linear, subjective, and fragmentary flow of time.
